Who May Apply to Adopt?

  • Applicants minimum age of twenty-seven (27)
  • Applicants that are at least sixteen (16) years but not more than forty-seven (47) years older than the child to be adopted
  • Applicants in stable marriage (minimum three (3) years)
  • Applicants with one (1) divorce each accepted, minimum five (5) years in current marriage
  • One spouse must be a United States citizen
  • Applicants that do not have convictions of crime involving moral “turpitude”
  • Applicants that are financially stable (minimum income approximately 125% of the poverty guideline for Hawaii)
  • Applicants that will provide proper care and support to the child
  • Applicants that are able to assume rights and responsibilities incident to parental authority

 

Special Considerations:

  • Given to applicants of Filipino descent
  • Some practice of faith and religion
  • Single women applicants considered for children 6 years and above
  • Childless preferred, but 2 or 3 children at home accepted, flexible for special needs or older children
